Forest Plot Alignment

lidRAlignment is a free and open-source software tailored for highly efficient and accurate lidar data alignment in forest plot context. It enables automatic alignment of forest plot point clouds from different sources, such as ALS with TLS or MLS, or TLS with MLS, or ALS with ALS in a unified pipeline. The package is robust to large alignment differences, noise, and leaf-on/leaf-off conditions. 

It has been benchmarked against state of the art methods and has proven to be more accurate, faster and easier to use by being parameter free and easy to install.

Target users

The lidRalignment software is designed for practitioners and researchers who sample forest inventory plots using ALS, ULS, MLS, or TLS and require precise alignment between two or more datasets. It was built to be easy to install, simple to use, and parameter-free. Users don’t need to search for optimal settings, it just works out of the box.

lidRalignment is simple to use, with a single function that aligns two datasets. It is robust to large angular misalignments and has been tested across various scenarios, including leaf-on vs. leaf-off conditions, ALS vs. TLS, ULS vs. ALS, and all other plausible combinations of comparable datasets. According to state-of-the-art benchmarks, it outperforms other methods.

Pricing

lidRalignment is free and open-source. It costs nothing, and this will never change. We offer services, consulting, and training courses, but our software is free of charge and free to use for any application you see fit. To sustain development, we offer services, but you can also sponsor us.
